My friends and I carry a tradition of going out to dinner in Georgetown for each other’s birthdays. Last year I went to Peacock Café and loved it, but I wanted to go somewhere new. Although I had been to Mai Thai before, I wanted to go again and knew it’s a crowd favorite.
Name: Mai Thai
Location: 3251 Prospect Street NW (Washington, D.C.)
Time: 7:30 pm on Friday (with a reservation)
Order: Philadelphia Roll ($5.95) and brown rice side order ($3)
Review: To be honest, my dinner was mediocre. The sushi would have been way better, in my opinion, if the salmon hadn’t been smoked. I’m not usually a smoked salmon fan, but assumed the cream cheese and rice would make up for the flavor. The brown rice was pretty standard. In hindsight, I should have ordered a large vegetarian entrée or a different type of sushi. Usually, Mai Thai serves reliably good food, but this time wasn’t exactly an ideal meal. On the plus side, the complimentary birthday dessert (a delicious vanilla ice cream with fruit) hit the spot and came with an adorable candle.
