I’m a fan of all bakeries, so it’s no surprise that I jumped at the opportunity to try out Billy’s Bakery in Chelsea with a couple friends this past Sunday. I’d never been but fell in love with the place once I got there. It’s so charming and adorable—kind of like Magnolia meets Butter Lane. Anyway, I was overwhelmed with all of the scrumptious looking flavors and just knew deep down inside that a cupcake wasn’t gonna cut it. I needed a full slice of cake (the meager $2 difference sold me on it, actually). A creature of habit, I resorted to my classic choice: yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Word to the wise, don’t ask for a paper receipt. It will literally take 20 minutes to get one. Don’t ask me why cause I couldn’t tell you to save my life. They must have individually written each letter and number with a quill pen.
Name: Billy’s Bakery
Location: 184 9th Avenue
Time: 5:30 pm on a Sunday
Order: Slice of yellow cake with chocolate frosting
Price: $5
Review: To be totally honest, I was kinda slightly disappointed. The yellow cake was dry and not moist, like it should have been. However, the frosting was delicious and very sweet. The size was pretty large and filling, so I finished every last bite despite my underwhelmed feeling. I don’t know that I would opt for the same selection the next time I’m at Billy’s, but I am looking forward to trying out their carrot cake! It looked scrumptious and the cream cheese frosting was tempting to say the least…
