Michael Bublé: A Concert Review

January 19, 2014 by anc49

On September 22nd, my best friend and I cabbed it to the Verizon Center to see the ever-so romantic, charming, Canadian crooner Michael Bublé. We’ve been forever fans of this insanely talented singer and fell even more in love with each joke, song, and dance. Everyone knows that Michael Bublé is a hopeless romantic with a light-hearted, self-depracating sense of humor, as seen through his late night television interviews, famous concert YouTube videos, and SNL appearances. I just didn’t know […]

Vienna Café: A Review

January 10, 2014 by anc49

Welcome one of the cutest cafés in South Florida: Vienna Café. Ever since I first tried it out years ago, I have loved it and always looked forward to each dining experience there. It’s teeny and narrow, with a hodgepodge of antique pieces and decoration, mismatched china, and charming music. Everything there is beyond delicious; I’ve tried the croque monsieur and croque madame (in my carnivore days), the baked brie, a crêpe with ice cream, and the carrot cake. Everything […]

J. Alexander’s: A Review

January 9, 2014 by anc49

Ever since my uncle introduced me to J. Alexander’s, I’ve loved it. We used to go often as a family, and, naturally, got sick of it. Since I hadn’t been in years, we went back last week and loved it. I guess absence does make the heart grow fonder… Name: J. Alexander’s Location: 8550 W Broward Blvd (Plantation, FL) Time: 1:30 pm on Monday Order: Mexico City spinach con queso dip ($12) and veggie burger ($12) Review: The spinach queso dip is […]

Farmers Fishers Bakers: A Review

January 7, 2014 by anc49

Behold, Farmers Fishers Bakers: one of my Georgetown obsessions. Right on the waterfront, it’s one of Georgetown’s gems (Kafè Leopold being another major one) and local favorites. They serve lunch/dinner, dessert, and brunch – which is my absolute favorite there. I first went last spring and experienced the Farmers Fishers Bakers brunch extravaganza: yogurt parfaits, salsa and guacamole, french toast, candied popcorn, salads galore, etc. It’s on a running to-do list of mine to go again and brunch at FFB. All of […]

Five Hours in Manhattan

January 7, 2014 by anc49

In November, my professor Maureen Corrigan (who is the most impressive person I’ve met thus far and my role model) took my entire Literature of New York City class to the Lower East Side, where we embarked on a walking tour (courtesy of the Big Onion Walking Tour company) and had an hour of free time. Aside from my aversion to lengthy car and bus rides, the trip was wonderful and actually cathartic. Going back to New York presented me […]

Pie Sisters: A Second Review

January 6, 2014 by anc49

In tandem with my last Pie Sisters post, I’m writing another review on their absurd delicacies. As you know, I adore this bakery with all of my heart and enjoy each experience there like it’s my first. This second review refers to an afternoon when a good friend of mine and I grabbed lunch at Sweetgreen and headed over to Pie Sisters for dessert. Name: Pie Sisters Location: 3423 M Street NW (Washington, D.C.) Time: 2:30 pm on Friday Order: […]

‘Where’d You Go, Bernadette?’: A Book Review

January 6, 2014 by anc49

Photo Credit: Hachette Book Group Last fall while hanging out with my friend in her dorm room, I saw a copy of Where’d You Go, Bernadette?  The cover immediately grabbed my attention with its colorful, spunky design and alluring title. I left it in the back of my mind, but the book’s name and cover kept popping up everywhere for the next year. This summer at Haute Living, one of my editors was raving to another one about the very same book. […]
