American Apparel celebrated its 9th birthday on Thursday evening at its 121 Spring Street location. While shopping, my best friend and I heard loud music floating from the American Apparel store, so we walked right in. We were greeted by two bubbly girls decked out in the quintessential spandex leotards and bustier-shorts combo. On shiny trays they offered us a medley of cheese and crackers and an assortment of Baked by Melissa cupcakes. Naturally, I had to reciprocate their propriety and take a cupcake (Tie Dye, which was pretty decent). I have had Baked by Melissa a few times before, both in Manhattan and Miami; in my opinion, they’re yummy but not the best cupcakes ever).
In the back of the store, they set up a table with email sign-ups and more food, this time with Trader Joe’s champagne. Once more out of decorum, I had another cupcake: chocolate chip pancake. Overall, the event was fun and reeled in a solid amount of customers. Surrounded by a flock of balloons, the DJ at the front played some music and set the mood.
