What better place to eat during Parents’ Weekend than the restaurant where John F. Kennedy proposed to Jackie Onassis? My mom took my best friend and me to Martin’s Tavern, a Georgetown favorite and foolproof wonderful dining experience. We ate right outside, ensconced on the corner of Wisconsin and N, and people watched in between meals.
Name: Martin’s Tavern
Location: 1264 Wisconsin Avenue NW (Washington, D.C.)
Time: 6:30 on Friday (without a reservation)
Order: Onion rings and the Tavern Treat
Price: Not listed on the online menu and I can’t find the receipt. But it’s moderately expensive.
Review: OMG. After that dinner, I know what all the hype is about. Instead of raving incessantly about the cuisine, I’ll remain succinct with my praise. Accompanied by a divine sauce, the onion rings were thin, crispy, and flavorful; if my memory serves me well, we asked for a tartar sauce and it paired perfectly. The Tavern Treat – well, I can’t do that review justice. The english muffin was perfectly toasted and garnished with scrumptious jumbo crab meat and an incredible hollandaise sauce (my weakness). I ordered it with a side of asparagus, a great decision on my part. Basically, I can’t wait to go again.
