Thanks to my grandmother, I’m a lover of all home remedies and natural oils, especially for beauty treatments. So when I discovered coconut oil and started experimenting with it for my hair and skin, I became hooked. In fact, it’s become part of my beauty regimen and one of my secret weapons. Coconut oil is so incredibly packed with benefits that cover all spectrums of health and beauty, but I’ll focus on the wonders it can do for your skin and hair.
Make sure to purchase organic and unprocessed coconut oil.
Hair
Frizz Control: Dab some coconut oil onto your palm and run a light layer through the lower half of your hair to minimize frizz and dry ends. If you have some frizz on the crown of your hair or flyaways near your face, use a little dab to reduce frizz and avoid extra oiliness.
Shine Boost: Save money and time with fancy oil serums to maintain shine after you style your hair. Coconut oil adds an instant glow to your locks (and smells delicious).
Extended Treatment: Just as you can leave in olive oil and castor oil for at least 30 mins (even better overnight), try out coconut oil as a deep conditioner before you shampoo your hair. It actually even makes shampooing easier because your hair is immediately silkier.
Skin
Lip balm: That’s right – the moisture in coconut oil that revolutionizes your hair can do the same for your lips. Consider it a natural substitute for Vaseline, Aquaphor and chap stick.
Makeup remover: Wipe away makeup while simultaneously moisturizing your skin with coconut oil. You’ll never go back to chemically-infused makeup wipes, lotions or oils.
Night cream: Hydrate your skin with a raw, unprocessed source of moisture. Scientifically speaking, coconut oil rocks as a night cream because its fatty acids help reinforce the skin’s lipid barrier.
Cuticle Saver: Even the most beauty conscious girl can forget to show her cuticles some TLC. We tend to forget our nails once they’re painted and glossed, but it’s a terrible habit. Rub in some coconut oil to get your best cuticles yet.
Acne Treatment: It might seem counterintuitive to use an oil to remove acne and reduce hyper pigmentation, but the lauric acid and capric acid are effective for fighting bacteria. Organic coconut oil is naturally anti fungal, antibacterial, antiviral and antimicrobial. Use it in moderation, like at night, to slowly incorporate it into your regimen.
