Albeit my distaste for spicy food, I really do like certain Indian dishes (samosas, naan, dosas, etc). They’re very flavorful, healthful and unique. Last year I tried out Hampton Chutney and loved it! It was my delicious introduction to the world of dosas. My editor suggested that I try the dosas cart in Washington Square Park. Unfortunately, it stayed behind on my running to-do list and entered the world of “things I didn’t get to do in 2013.”
The other day, my editor and I decided to go on a “field trip” and get lunch at the dosas cart in Washington Square Park! It really wasn’t that big of a field trip cause we work in Soho… Anyway, I finally got to try out the famous dosas cart even though I ordered samosas—hey, I had brought a turkey sandwich to work that wasn’t going to eat itself. An unpaid intern’s gotta do what an unpaid intern’s gotta do.
Name: NY Dosas
Location: 50 Washington Square Street
Time: 11:45 am on a Wednesday
Order: Samosas
Price: $2
Review: How delicious AND SPICY. I just got one order of samosas to-go, which entailed one monstrous samosa and a side salad. The cart owner asked me what level of spicy I wanted, so I instinctively said medium. Ha! My medium is his mild—aka, I was in for a surprise. All in all, the samosa was delicious and I could taste all of the potatoes, peas and lentils. The salad was decent—just shaved carrots and lettuce. However, its dressing was much spicier than I had imagined. Next time I’ll try the dosas!
