Seeing as I’m back in my neck of the South Florida woods, it’s time to start writing about my favorite eateries! One of my best friends from Georgetown is visiting me with her family, so we took them to South Beach. One of the most iconic SoBe restaurants (aka where Gianni Versace read his paper every morning), News Café is a must. I went once as a little girl, but didn’t remember it very well. It’s a really touristy spot (and area) but I love going there and especially love shopping in South Beach. Collins and Lincoln Road are the best Miami style gems, along with Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. But I won’t get carried away.
Name: News Café
Location: 800 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Time: 11:30 am
Order: Vegetable quiche and cup of fruit
Price: $12.75
Review: Holy quiche! Although I adore a solid quiche, it’s very hard to find. I usually consider quiches to be very eggy and inedible. However, the News Café somehow managed to produce the consummate quiche. I couldn’t muster up a single complaint! It was crunchy and flaky in the crust, savory and solid in the filling. The flavors were phenomenal and hit the spot. Within ten minutes (probably less) I devoured the entire quiche and moved onto the fruit cup. The grapes, pineapple, strawberries and raisins were fresh, but I despise melons of all sorts so I left those.
