As a lifelong francophile, I was bound to find out about PAUL and fall in love with it. Granted, when I first ate at PAUL in Georgetown, I thought it was only there; I wasn’t aware of its nationwide presence. There are a bunch near me in South Florida, but the Georgetown one is way better as far as ambiance and taste go.
In recent years I’ve developed quite a sweet tooth, so I basically go crazy every time I see a display of pastries – especially French ones. This review will only include these two items, but stay posted for more PAUL reviews because I’m definitely going often.
Name: PAUL
Location: 1078 Wisconsin Avenue NW (Washington, D.C.)
Time: 1:30 pm on Friday
Order: Lobster bisque ($4.95) and a pecan pain au chocolat ($2.45)
Review: OMG. C’est l’amour. I barely eat lobster anything (because of my own ethical struggles), but this bisque was absurd. So thick and creamy, while still maintaining flavor and heat. I finished the whole thing. As for the pain au chocolat, I barely have words. The candied pecans were crunchy and sweet, paired perfectly with the soft, flaky, chocolate drizzled and filled puff pastry. Okay, this place makes healthy eating difficult for those with sweet teeth. Now I need to go once I return (there goes my sugar-free plan).
Rating: 5/5
I’m going to try the lobster bisque the next time I go. They also have great macarons!
