‘Pretty Little Liars’ Recap: “Into the Deep”

August 7, 2013 by anc49

Photo Credit: Wetpaint  Alright, here are my sassy thoughts on yesterday’s PLL episode. I’m only a day late this time! Shout out to Hulu. Disclaimer: There are spoilers galore. If you have not seen this episode yet read this blog post, you are ruining it for yourself. Watch the episode listed above and then revel in my witty remarks (or lack thereof). Paige’s Gift: This looks like a genuinely thoughtful (and expensive) birthday gift for Emily. Hopefully it works out, but I […]

Wordnesday: Demulcent

August 7, 2013 by anc49

Word: Demulcent Origin: 1732 Definition: soothing and mollifying Sassy sentence: The demulcent sounds of ribbons and wrapping paper on my gifts soothed my monstrous headache.

Ceci-Cela: A Review

August 7, 2013 by anc49

Right around the corner from my place, Ceci-Cela is a lovely French café and pâtisserie. Since I have been in SoHo, I have gone there a handful of times. My editor is a big fan as well. This quaint and charming café showcases a wide array of delectable, tempting French pastries in its window. When you walk in, you’re greeted by friendly baristas, adorable signs, romantic Parisian songs and even more scrumptious sweets. There’s also a seating area in the […]

Despaña: A Review

August 7, 2013 by anc49

On my first move-in day in New York City, my mother and I went to Despaña for two reasons: 1) it’s literally right next to my building and 2) it’s authentic Spanish food, a nod to our heritage. When we first walked in, we immediately felt at home and became giddy when we saw the 1880 products. 1880 is literally the most incredible purveyor of Spanish treats, from polvorones to turrón; my Spanish teacher at Georgetown brought them to class […]

Mamoun’s: A Review

August 7, 2013 by anc49

After being spoiled by Maoz falafel in Spain (which oddly enough I haven’t tried in NYC), I was hesitant to try falafel here. I found Mamoun’s on countless lists online, so I decided to give it a whirl. Located in Greenwich Village, it’s a decent and bearable walk from my apartment on a beautiful day. Name: Mamoun’s Falafel Location: 119 MacDougal Street Time: 2 pm Order: Falafel sandwich Price: $3 (Cash only but no worries. They have a Mamoun’s ATM […]

The Butcher’s Daughter: A Review

August 6, 2013 by anc49

Out of a desire to splurge on a filling and scrumptious breakfast, I headed to the Butcher’s Daughter on a rainy Sunday morning. After perusing the menu online, I looked forward to organic delight with genuine hope. Unfortunately, I was incredibly let down. Before I get to the actual food, let me warn you about the customer service. Also, I will take a moment to say that Sass and the City is a blog focused on positivity and good energy; […]

Housing Works Café: A Review

August 6, 2013 by anc49

Now here’s a café with a cause: Housing Works. Housing Works is actually a non-profit organization with twelve thrift shops and one bookstore cafe. Dedicated to the fight against AIDS and homelessness, the charity directly benefits New Yorkers living with these two conditions. On a typical Yelp search for touristy yet local coffee shops, I discovered this gem. It wasn’t until I sat at a table and checked my surroundings that I became aware of the story behind it. Luckily, […]

The Met: Punk Exhibit and Impressionism

August 5, 2013 by anc49

Oh, the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Just like Tim Gunn, I consider you to be my purging, cathartic sanctuary from quotidian anxiety. Unfortunately, I don’t live near the Met so I cannot frequent it often. But when I do, I take in all of its creative glory. I just walk around and revel in the artistic wonders of Van Gogh, Monet, Manet, Seurat, Rembrandt, Degas and so many more. When I came to Manhattan during Easter, I visited the Met […]

Aroma Espresso Bar: A Review

August 5, 2013 by anc49

As a switch from my typical SoHo Coffee Pot morning latte, my editor once recommended Aroma Espresso. If she didn’t come in with Dean & DeLuca, she usually brought Aroma Espresso, so I surmised that it was fairly reliable. Although I did enjoy SoHo Coffee Pot because it was right downstairs and well-prepared, I wanted a change of scenery. As fate would have it, SoHo Coffee Pot closed temporarily due to pipe issues. It was time to venture to a […]
