Pommes Frites: A Review

July 28, 2013 by anc49

After seeing this place on multiple “Things You Must Eat Before Leaving New York” lists and remembering my love of french fries, I ventured over to Pommes Frites. Let’s just say it was one of the best decisions of my life. I had been looking forward to this meal more than most milestone moments of my life. I was not let down. Before I practically write a treatise of obsession and adoration for Pommes Frites, I will warn you that […]

16 Handles: A Review

July 28, 2013 by anc49

As a major froyo lover, I stopped by 16 Handles for the second time since I’ve been here. The first time I had it I found it okay compared to Pinkberry and SweetGreen. So I picked up the pink cup and winnowed through the handles to create the complete concoction of froyo goodness. I mixed together Euro Tart, Vanilla Sky and Cookies and Cream. Then I sprinkled it with blackberries and strawberries, cookie dough bites, cheesecake bites, brownie bites and […]

American Apparel’s 9th Birthday Party

July 28, 2013 by anc49

American Apparel celebrated its 9th birthday on Thursday evening at its 121 Spring Street location. While shopping, my best friend and I heard loud music floating from the American Apparel store, so we walked right in. We were greeted by two bubbly girls decked out in the quintessential spandex leotards and bustier-shorts combo. On shiny trays they offered us a medley of cheese and crackers and an assortment of Baked by Melissa cupcakes. Naturally, I had to reciprocate their propriety […]

‘The Carrie Diaries’: Behind the Scenes Look

July 28, 2013 by anc49

On Thursday evening, I had one of my New York City firsts: first time seeing the filming of a show/movie. While walking around SoHo with my best friend, we passed by Housing Works Bookstore and Cafe. I was in the middle of my “Oh that’s the bookstore whose profits go to New Yorkers with AIDS/HIV” speech when I noticed a crowd of people in front of it alongside an absurd amount of camera, equipment and bags. Out of curiosity we […]

Taim: A Review

July 25, 2013 by anc49

After a futile search for the Calexico Burrito Cart, I decided to give Taim another try. About two weeks ago, I went with my editor on a lunch break. A fellow vegetarian, she told me Taim falafel was even better than Mamoun’s (which I love and only costs like $3!) and Maoz (which I first tried and fell in love with in Madrid). Unfortunately, I was really underwhelmed and turned off by the (in my opinion) inordinate amount of cucumber. […]

Dinner and an Interview with Tim Gunn

July 25, 2013 by anc49

Left to Right: Me, Tim Gunn, Sarah Bochicchio Last night, I did what any cosmopolitan Manhattanite would have done on a typical Wednesday: a private gourmet dinner hosted by Tim Gunn to showcase Nespresso’s Holiday 2013 Collection. Oh, the perks of working for Haute Living! As I walked up to the event’s suite on Broadway, I experienced an eerie feeling of déjà vu. Then it finally hit me once I noticed the stunning exposed brick wall and open layout. I was […]

Gimme! Coffee: A Review

July 25, 2013 by anc49

One of my editors at Haute Living recommended Gimme! Coffee the other day, confessing that it was the best coffee in SoHo. Naturally, I was dying to try it out for myself. As I walked back to my apartment this rainy morning, I decided to try it out because Nolita is literally right behind me. The sound of Ne-Yo’s voice welcomed me as I walked in: a good sign. Name: Gimme! Coffee Location: 228 Mott Street Time: 11:00 am Order: My […]

Orchid Garden Spa: A Review

July 24, 2013 by anc49

Photo Credit: Yelp After an atrocious experience at Soho Nails (my manicurist didn’t take off all of my dark blue polish, didn’t file or cut my nails, didn’t scrub my feet properly and left me with another manicurist after she claimed in Spanish that I didn’t like her work), I needed a new place. Usually, I do my own mani pedi because I’m pretty apt at it, it saves me money and I can multi-task during it. Unfortunately, Manhattan in the […]

‘His Girl Friday’: A Movie Review

July 24, 2013 by anc49

Photo Credit: Doctor Macro Disclaimer: This is not a review full of spoilers. Here I will only offer my thoughts and recommend it based on certain criteria. You must watch the movie for yourself and enjoy it in all of its pure, unfiltered, brand new glory. On a recent stormy New York night, I watched His Girl Friday on Netflix. As I ensconced myself in a heap of sheets and fed myself mini cannolis from Ferrara Cafe, I winnowed through the Classics section […]
