PAUL: A Review

January 5, 2014 by anc49

As a lifelong francophile, I was bound to find out about PAUL and fall in love with it. Granted, when I first ate at PAUL in Georgetown, I thought it was only there; I wasn’t aware of its nationwide presence. There are a bunch near me in South Florida, but the Georgetown one is way better as far as ambiance and taste go. In recent years I’ve developed quite a sweet tooth, so I basically go crazy every time I […]

El Centro: A Review

January 5, 2014 by anc49

Once my friends and I found out about El Centro opening up on Wisconsin, we knew we had to try it out ASAP. After all, Mexican food in Georgetown (and D.C. in general) is notorious for being less than desirable. So we scurried on over and ate outside in the terrace near the bar. The décor and ambiance are totally worth mentioning – lit by strung, multi-colored lights and complete with upbeat music, rustic tables, and twenty-somethings all over the place. Name: […]

Wordnesday: Equivocate

January 1, 2014 by anc49

Word: Equivocate Origin: 1590 Definition: to use unclear, ambiguous language with the goal of trickery, deception, etc. Sassy Sentence: You should reform your devious nature by making it your New Year’s resolution to no longer equivocate, a behavior that only leads to the confusion and detriment of others.

Pie Sisters: A Review

December 31, 2013 by anc49

Oh, Pie Sisters – you have my heart forever. Now I feel like E. E. Cummings. Pie is one of my favorite desserts (chocolate cake being the ultimate, then ice cream cookie sandwiches, and so on) and this place knows good pie. I mean, really, really good pie. Like actually phenomenal pie. It’s super adorable and quaint and lovely and homey. WITH AMAZING PIE. I just can’t get over it. But unfortunately I’ll need to in order to write this review. Name: […]

Martin’s Tavern: A Review

December 30, 2013 by anc49

What better place to eat during Parents’ Weekend than the restaurant where John F. Kennedy proposed to Jackie Onassis? My mom took my best friend and me to Martin’s Tavern, a Georgetown favorite and foolproof wonderful dining experience. We ate right outside, ensconced on the corner of Wisconsin and N, and people watched in between meals. Name: Martin’s Tavern Location: 1264 Wisconsin Avenue NW (Washington, D.C.) Time: 6:30 on Friday (without a reservation) Order: Onion rings and the Tavern Treat […]

Georgetown Cupcake: A Review

December 30, 2013 by anc49

In tandem with my Baked & Wired post, I’ll catch up on my last special Georgetown Cupcake adventure. In October (I know, super long ago), I went with my best friend to try out the pumpkin cheesecake cupcake that our roommate recommended. I’d been a bunch of times before and a few times after.  The truth is that Georgetown Cupcake is insanely overrated; I went during GAAP weekend for the first time and did the typical touristy picture, once again […]

Good Stuff Eatery: A Review

December 30, 2013 by anc49

Even though I don’t eat any meat or poultry, I still was dying to try out Good Stuff Eatery when it joined the slew of restaurants on M. During my first week back, I went for the first time. Since then, I’ve been twice and plan on going again. Three times in a semester might not seem like a lot, but it’s a pretty solid number considering how unhealthful the food is and how often I actually trek past campus’s […]

Baked and Wired: A Review

December 30, 2013 by anc49

If you live in Georgetown, you’re privy to the most contentious, hot, polarizing debate of D.C. No, not elephant, donkey, or earthflower (come on, Green Party. Step it up. Pick an oak tree or something). It’s actually Georgetown Cupcake, Baked & Wired, or Sprinkles. Yup. Within ten short, cobblestone blocks lie three insanely popular and delicious cupcakeries. Each place has garnered its own loyal, faithful, sugar overdosed following that fights to the last crumb to defend it. I’ve sampled each […]

‘The Wolf of Wall Street’: A Movie Review

December 29, 2013 by anc49

Photo Credit: Hollywood Reporter Disclaimer: This is not a review full of spoilers. Here I will only offer my thoughts and recommend it based on certain criteria. You must watch the movie for yourself and enjoy it in all of its pure, unfiltered, brand new glory. Because it felt like eons since I last went to the movies (seriously, I can’t even tell you the last film I saw in theaters. Please don’t fling rocks at me.), I decided to see The Wolf […]
